Installation Tips

  • Countertop should be installed as soon as possible. Bring your new top into your home and let it acclimate to the homes air temp and humidity levels. Never leave your countertop in a humid or damp area such as a garage floor or basement. Varying humidity levels can cause your new top to warp.
  • We have taken extra steps to package your new countertop helping to insure the top arrives free from damage. Inspect your countertop as soon as possible and prior to any tear out of existing countertop at the job site. This inspection should take place within twenty-four hours of pick up.
  • Handling countertop is often more than a one-person job. Once removed from the box, carry the countertop on edge, never carry the top with the deck horizontal as damage can occur with a flexing top.
  • Your new countertop requires ¾ build up strips which are supplied in your installation kit. These build up strips will be attached to the cabinets. Failure to NOT use build up strips will cause the countertop to fit improperly and will void the warranty.
  • The glue we provide with your installation kit has special attributes and is essential for your warranty to be activated. Failure to use this glue in miters or field seams will void your warranty and can result in complete product failure. Squeeze a generous amount of glue over the area to be bonded. You have five minutes of working time. Fit the joints together snuggly. Make sure the front edge is perfectly aligned. This glue will form a skin in 20 minutes and will be dry in 30-60 minutes at 70 degrees. Below 70 degrees 1-2 hours. Clean off squeeze out on the surface with hot tap water before completely dry.
  • If your countertop contains a miter and your cabinet interferes with the dual action joint fastener, you can remove the adjusting screw once the glue is cured usually in 30 to 60 minutes. If necessary you can also remove the fastener once the glue is fully cured in a few hours. The use of 1 x material {not supplied} fastened over the seam and running the length of the seam will add additional support to the joint and will act as a build up strip running the length of the miter.
  • If your countertop contains a miter and you have selected a miter bolt fastening system it is important to note the quality of the finished joint is in the hands of the installer.
  • Laminate countertop is largely a wood product. If your countertop contains loose backsplash it is quite common to find some warp with the length, being it is a wood product. This warp will come out and your backsplash will conform to the wall. The use of hot glue or other instant bonding adhesives or quick clamps reversed from upper wall cabinets will aid the installation until the silicone adhesive dries.
  • Selecting and preparing the work area to assemble your countertop is very important. It is always preferable to assemble large tops on sawhorses just in front of the cabinets unless access under the cabinets is available at the miters. Newspaper should be laid under miters to catch any squeeze out of glue that's expected and will also make clean up faster.
