Care and Maintenance
Warning
Avoid strong chemicals that are designed to clean ovens, clear
drains, or remove paint or nail polish.
Normal Cleaning
Clean the surface with soap and water, mild cleansers (soft
scrub) or ammonia based cleaners.
Scratch Removal
The process of removing a scratch will depend on its severity.
For smaller, shallow scratches, first start working in a circular motion
with 220 grit sandpaper. Then switch to a non-abrasive cleanser and a
Scotch-brite® pad as detailed above in the stain removal section. To
speed up this process you may want to start with a more aggressive grit
sandpaper, but always follow a progressive sanding process (180 grit, 220 grit,
320 grit and a buffpad) and always end with the non-abrasive
cleanser and a rag. Following this process will
ensure that there are no swirl marks left behind by the sandpaper.
Occasionally it may be necessary to go over the surface of the entire
countertop with the appropriate Scotch-brite® pad to “even
out” and return the surface to the original finish.
Stain Removal
Although unlikely, troublesome products such as food dye or fruit
drinks may cause a stain. To remove a stain, first try a solution of
½ bleach and ½ water. If this solution does not remove the
stain, try using full strength bleach, but do not let the bleach sit on
the surface for longer than 5 minutes before flushing with water! If the
stain continues to persist, try the following:
- Countertops - Use a non-abrasive cleanser with a
green, grey or white Scotch-brite® pad, working in a circular
motion.
- Sinks - Use the same process shown above. To keep the color of
the sink bright, occasionally fill it ¼ full of water and add 1
to 2 cups of bleach. Wipe sides and bottom, let stand for 15 minutes,
drain, and rinse.
